In a weird way, I miss working on the peninsula. Because then, I drove home via Skyline and the Great Highway on my way to the Golden Gate Bridge -- a drive that my uncle assured me would make most folks jealous. Especially when you spot a group of brown pelicans flying into the sunset. It was at these times, years ago, that I finally realized that I decided to live in northern California over other places. Although spring in Virginia, with the dogwood and the azalea blooming, can elicit an almost similar response. But that latter response I like to think is simply encoded in my DNA.
